  • Nearly 100 Immigration Arrests on the Central Coast in Five Days

    805 UndocuFund‘s Rapid Response Network counted nearly 100 immigration arrests across Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties since Monday, October 5, the Santa Barbara Independent reports. At least 63 were in Santa Barbara County.

    “If you see something, alert the community,” says executive director Primitiva Hernández.

  • Judges on Your November Ballot

    Down near the end of your ballot, you’ll vote yes or no on keeping each justice. These offices are nonpartisan. A justice who gets more yes votes than no votes keeps the job.

    California Supreme Court

    • Kelli M. Evans — Associate Justice since 2023. Before that: Alameda County Superior Court judge, California Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, State Bar of California, and ACLU of Northern California.
    • Joshua P. Groban — Associate Justice since 2018. Before that: private practice, senior adviser to Gov. Jerry Brown, and lecturer at UCLA School of Law.

    Court of Appeal, Second District

    Ventura County is in the Second District, so you vote on all 19 Second District justices on the ballot, not just the ones who sit here. Division 6 sits in Ventura:

    • Tari L. Cody — Presiding Justice. Ventura County Superior Court judge from 2000 to 2023, then Associate Justice on Division 6.
    • Kenneth R. Yegan — Associate Justice
