Dear Members of the Board,
I am writing as a long-time customer to express my deep concern regarding The Home Depot’s close association with political causes and figures whose values stand in stark contrast to equality, democracy, and basic human rights. Specifically, the company’s co-founders and senior executives have long been among the most generous financial backers of Donald Trump’s racist and anti-democratic agenda. Their support has lent credibility to policies that target immigrant communities, erode civil rights, and undermine the democratic process.
Equally troubling is the company’s silence while its premises have been used by federal agencies, including ICE, to stage raids that terrorize immigrant families. By allowing this to occur without objection, Home Depot has appeared complicit in efforts to instill fear rather than safety in our communities.
There is a second issue, and it is one Home Depot chose rather than merely tolerated. Reporting by 404 Media, based on public records requests, found that hundreds of AI-powered license plate reading cameras paid for by Home Depot and stationed in your parking lots feed a surveillance network that law enforcement can query. Flock Safety states it holds no contract with ICE, but ICE has routinely reached Flock data through local police departments. Your parking lots are well known as gathering places for day laborers. Paying for cameras that log who parks there, and handing the results to police, is a choice your company can unmake.
As a customer, I want to support companies whose actions reflect fairness, inclusivity, and respect for all people. At present, Home Depot’s leadership is sending the opposite message. Unless there is a clear and public effort to distance the company from extremist political movements and to establish policies that prevent its resources from being used in ways that harm vulnerable communities, I will take my business elsewhere and will urge others to do so as well.
I urge you to reflect on the company’s role in shaping the future of this country and to act in defense of democracy, human dignity, and justice.
