  • Poll Watcher Trainings

Poll watchers stand outside voting places to spot and report potential threats to voting. Our partner We Are California is offering online trainings on a statewide basis. Every session covers the same content, so you only need to attend one:

    • Wed, Sep 23 — 6:00pm–7:30pm PDT
    • Wed, Oct 14 — 6:00pm–7:30pm PDT
    • Wed, Oct 21 — 6:00pm–7:30pm PDT
    • Sat, Oct 24 — 10:00am–11:30am PDT

At the end of each training you can sign up for poll watching shifts at a local polling station.

  • No Kings: Vote Early in Ventura, Saturday, October 17

No Kings. No thrones, no crowns. Vote early, October 17. nokings.org

The next national No Kings day is Saturday, October 17, and this time the theme is Vote Early. Mail ballots go out October 5, so many of us will have ours in hand by then.

    • When — Saturday, October 17, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
    • Where — Ventura County Government Center, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura

Voting early means your voice is locked in and safe, days before anyone else can decide what happens next, and it gives you room to fix anything that goes wrong.

  • Ballot Cure Volunteer Training, September 21 and 22

When a mail ballot has a problem, like a missing or mismatched signature, the voter can fix it (or “cure” it) so it counts. Most people never find out their ballot needs fixing. Ballot cure volunteers reach out and walk them through it.

The DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) is training volunteers for its Ballot Cure program. It’s a one-hour Zoom, and every session covers the same material, so pick one:

    • Mon., Sept. 21 at 10 a.m. or 4 p.m.
    • Tue., Sept. 22 at 10 a.m. or 4 p.m.

All times Pacific. No voter protection experience needed, but you should be comfortable with Zoom and Google Docs.

  • Ventura County Is Hiring 300 Election Workers

The Elections Division of the Ventura County Clerk-Recorder’s Office is hiring 300 temporary vote center workers for the November 3 election. It pays $22.50 to $25.50 an hour, and you must be able to work October 31 through November 3.

The posting stays open only until they have enough applicants, so don’t wait.

  • Volunteer as a Poll Monitor on November 3

California Common Cause, the Asian Law Caucus, and the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area run a nonpartisan poll monitoring program every election, and they need volunteers across Southern California for Tuesday, November 3.

As a poll monitor you’ll visit 3 to 5 polling places over a 4-hour shift, fill out a short questionnaire at each one, and help make sure voters aren’t being harassed or intimidated. They provide the training and send you a poll monitor package in the mail.

    • Oct. 3–14 — required 90-minute Zoom training (pick one session)
    • Oct. 13 — last day to sign up, and spots are limited
