Do You Want More Sonic Booms?
The U.S. Space Force unit responsible for all West Coast and polar space launches wants to schedule more launches from Vandenberg just 80 miles north of Ojai. Lots more it seems.
Space Launch Delta 30 Commander Col. James T. Horne III is coming to Ojai on Monday to address community questions about proposed increased launch frequency and sonic boom impacts.
People with multiple concerns will be protesting and asking questions regarding the proposed increases and sonic booms, including:
– Concerns about structural impacts from house-rattling booms..
– Anxiety and confusion (“Was that an earthquake?”) and sleep disruption.
– Affects on wildlife.
– Rocket debris and hazardous materials.
– Fear of Vandenberg becoming a target of war.
The meeting will be held Monday, June 22, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Kent Hall on the Ojai City Hall Campus.
In addition to its military space launch mission, Vandenberg Space Force Base also hosts space launches for civil and commercial space entities, such as NASA, Elon Musk’s SpaceX and, soon reportedly, Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin
